Signals for Survival Signals for Survival Signals for Survival Signals for Survival

Preliminary studies (left) of female Eider for the illustration on page 55 of Signals for Survival (shown above) of Eider defending brood. 190 x 175 mm.

Layout drawing (left) for the illustration on page 13 of Signals for Survival (above) – Lesser Black-backed Gull taking chick. 285 x 220 mm. Eric Ennion's pencil notes on the layout are transcribed below.

85 wd Text: this would easily accommodate 85 words of " TRACKS " text at 4/5 words per line. If it is essential to have a wider block of text then the drawing could be bled off 1" in from R border (to middle gull's tail) – but preferred as it stands if possible.

NB Short of adding numbers or arrows (which we'd prefer to avoid!) this "lined-up" sequence is, I think, the best way of reinforcing the involvement of the same chick.
